Viola L. Kapp, 100, of Bridgewater passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville.

She was born in Plainfield on October 5, 1923, one of eleven children of Ralph and Mary Bounpane Croat.  She had lived in Pluckemin for 26 years before moving to Bridgewater 38 years ago.

Mrs. Kapp was an administrative secretary employed by American Hoechst in Bridgewater for 17 years retiring in 1985.

Viola was very active in exercise and dance classes at the Bridgewater Senior Citizens Center in Bridgewater for many years.  She was approached by the center director, Donna Langel, in the late 1990s to lead a class in weight-training and aerobics developed by Tufts University and became a certified trainer in 2000.  She taught the “Healthy Bones” program to the seniors for over 20 years well into her nineties.

She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Widow and Widowers Club of Somerville.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Michael J. Danyus, Sr., who died April 5, 1986; by her second husband, John C. Kapp, Jr., who died February 20, 2013; and by nine siblings, Mary Moronese, Delphia Santa Barbara, Elaine Tuthill, Ann, Percy, Joseph, Carl, Fred and Peter Croat.

Mrs. Kapp is survived by a son, Michael J. Danyus, Jr. of Palm Coast, FL; 2 daughters, Debbie Schuler of Bridgewater and Lucy Ciotta of Peapack; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and by a sister, Amelia Stocker of Rio Grande.

Funeral gathering at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Thursday, May 2 at 9:00am followed by a mass at St. Bernard of Clairvaux RC Church, 500 Route 22, Bridgewater at 10:00am.  Entombment will take place at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
