Vincent James Mercurio, 54, of Long Valley passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at his home.

He was the first baby to be born on January 1, 1969 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown to parents, Joseph A. and Patricia Fitzgerald Mercurio.  He grew up in Bernardsville and had lived in Basking Ridge before moving to Long Valley 25 years ago.

Vincent was a heavy equipment operator having last worked for Hoffman Supply Company in Long Valley for six months.

He was an avid modified race car fan having been the mechanic for several pit crews including the Chris Bartley race team.  He was a member of the Hard Clay Observer, a facebook group of race car enthusiasts having been known as “Super Wrench.”

He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys football fan and an avid snowmobiler.

Vincent was predeceased by his mother, Patricia Fitzgerald Mercurio, who died February 20, 2020.

He is survived by his father, Joseph A. Mercurio of Long Valley; two sisters, Roxanne Jurtschenko and her husband, Edmond Boylan, and Barbara Alpaugh and her husband, Jim Alpaugh, all of Long Valley; four nieces and nephews, Christopher Jurtschenko and his wife, Alyssa, Megan Jurtschenko, Kelsey Alpaugh and Jake Alpaugh; a great niece and nephew, McKinley and Austin Jurtschenko; and his three kitties, Sophie, Kitty and Rainey.

A visitation will be held at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Friday, July 14 from 7:00 to 9:00pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
