Richard Barrett Barfuss, born on January 6, 1981 (42), passed away on August 2, 2023 at his home in Gladstone, NJ.
Ricky was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was married to his wife, Megan Loucks Barfuss, for fifteen years and they had two beautiful children; a son, Richard G. Barfuss (11) and a daughter, Riley L. Barfuss (7). Ricky was the son of C. Richard and Wendy Burger Barfuss and was the middle child of two siblings.
He grew up in Bernardsville and Far Hills where he was an avid swimmer and graduated from Bernards High School. As a young person, he made a profession of Christian faith and was active in the Church. Ricky graduated with distinction in economics from Middlebury College in 2003 where he was a collegiate swimmer. After college, Ricky lived in Bedminster before moving to Gladstone in 2015.
Ricky was a principled man of integrity. He was intellectual, compassionate, and kind. Ricky was Vice President and Senior Investment Fixed Income Strategist for Peapack Private, the wealth management division of Peapack – Gladstone Bank. In his prior role at Peapack – Gladstone Bank, Ricky was the Director of Asset/Liability Management. Before joining the Bank in 2010, Ricky was the Vice President of Financial Services for Weichert Commercial Brokerage. In his free time, he actively helped with his son’s ice hockey team.
He is survived by his wife, Megan, and their children, Ricky and Riley; his parents, Rick and Wendy Barfuss; a sister, Kelsey C. Maki and her husband, Chris; a brother, Cory R. Barfuss, and his wife, Lisa; and two nephews and a niece, Shone Maki, Colton Barfuss and Madi Ryan Beall.
A celebration of life service will be held at Liquid Church, 299 Webro Road, Parsippany on Tuesday, August 15 at 12:00pm, where Ricky was a member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Liquid Church (liquidchurch.com/give) or to National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) (donate.nami.org). Arrangements are by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
