Margaret Bond McMath, 87, of Basking Ridge passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at her home.

She was born in Knoxville TN on March 27, 1936, the daughter of the late Cornelius C. Bond Sr. and Pauline Sanford Bond.  She resided in Far Hills for 25 years before moving to Springtown, PA.  She returned to this area settling in Basking Ridge in 2020.  She also summered in Nantucket, MA.

Margaret was a 1953 graduate of The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY.  She attended Vassar College, and later received a BA degree in English from Rutgers University.  She also studied at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where she met her husband in 1955.

Mrs. McMath raised and trained champion Bernese Mountain Dogs, and was active in the dog show circuit for over 30 years.  She was a member of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America.

While living in Far Hills, she volunteered at the VNA Rummage Sale in Far Hills and at The Matheny School in Peapack-Gladstone.  An avid reader, Mrs. McMath volunteered at the Clarence Dillon Public Library in Bedminster for many years.

She is predeceased by her husband, Barrie George McMath, who died in 2017; and by a brother, Jackson Bond, who died in 2003.

Mrs. McMath is survived by her four children, Elizabeth B. McMath of Walnut Creek, CA, Mary S. McMath and her husband, John Schnarre, of St. Louis, MO, David C. McMath and his wife, Susan, of East Hardwick, VT, and Alice M. McCune and her husband, Shawn, of Basking Ridge; 7 grandchildren, Keilidh McMath, Linnea Devine, Alexandra Schnarre, and Matheson, Patrick, Brendan and Emily McCune; 2 great grandchildren, Liam and Torrin Devine; and 2 brothers, Cornelius Bond Jr. of Miami, FL and Sanford Bond of Richmond, VA.
