Jonathan S. Wurst, 71, of Tewksbury passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at his home.

He was born in Plainfield on March 1, 1952, to the late Frederick W. and Eleanor Masker Wurst.  He lived in Bridgewater prior to moving to Tewksbury.

Jon was a 1970 graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High School West.

Mr. Wurst was a General Contractor and owned Wurst Contracting Co., Inc. for 43 years.

He was a member of The 200 Club of Somerset County, and as a youth was involved with the 4-H Sheep Fold.  Jon enjoyed sailing, golf, travel and summering on Long Beach Island.  He was an avid NY Jets and NY Yankees fan.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen Wurst and Richard Wurst.

Jon is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Ann Merle Wurst; a daughter, Jennifer L. Wurst and her partner, Michael Fleming, of Phippsburg, ME; a son, Jonathan R. Wurst of Phillipsburg; a grandson, Finn Fleming of Phippsburg, ME; a brother, Andrew H. Wurst and his wife, Patricia, of Little Egg Harbor; a sister, Melanie Wurst-Bradley and her husband, Albert Bradley, of Harwich, MA; a sister, Laura Wurst of Boston, MA; his beloved dogs, Jackie, Nick, Sweep and Ticket; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Friday June 2 at 11:00am.  Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday, June 1 from 2-4 and 7-9pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Tewksbury Township Land Trust, The Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital.
