John B. Yaxley, 86, of Hillsborough passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Brookdale at Hillsborough Assisted Living in Hillsborough.

He was born in Barnet, England on April 4, 1936, a son of the late Robert Edmund and Pearl Joyce Yaxley.  He immigrated to the United States in 1964 and settled in Washington DC.  He had lived in Far Hills and Peapack since 1978 moving to Hillsborough 8 years ago.

John was employed as a maintenance worker both in England and America.  He later worked as a re-enactor at Wild West City in Byram Township for 7 years retiring in 2013.

Mr. Yaxley was a member of the Re-enactors Guild of America and The 64th Regiment of Foot.  He enjoyed oil painting and was an American Civil War connoisseur.

He is survived by his daughter, Page E. Yaxley and her husband, Eric Schroeder of London, OH; and 2 sisters, Suzanne Arthur and Linda Cable both of England.

Private cremation services were held under the direction of Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
