Ira H. Schwed, 89, of Basking Ridge passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Sunrise Assisted Living at Basking Ridge.

He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 14, 1934, a son of the late Sidney Carl and Lillian Jesajas Schwed.  He had been a resident of Basking Ridge the past 45 years except for 10 years in Pennsylvania.

Ira was a 1957 graduate of Brooklyn College receiving a degree in Biology.  He also served in the US Air Force Reserves.

Mr. Schwed was an inspector employed by the Environmental Protection Agency in Edison for 25 years retiring in 1980.

He is predeceased by his wife, Sandra Sachse Schwed who died July 9, 2020; and by a brother, Julian Schwed who died in 2015.

Mr. Schwed is survived by 3 sons, Stephen C. Schwed of Bernardsville, William J. Schwed of Far Hills and Wessley L. Schwed of Basking Ridge and their spouses; and 8 grandchildren and one great grandson.

Graveside services and interment were held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge on Wednesday, November 15 at 2:00pm officiated by Rabbi Daniel Geretz.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL  60601.  Arrangements are by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
