Christine Salegna, 97, of Bedminster passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Complete Care at Green Knoll in Bridgewater.

She was born in Asbury on May 13, 1926, a daughter of the late George Sr. and Elizabeth Fulper Jones.  She grew up in Middle Valley and Long Valley and had been a resident of Bedminster for the past 71 years.

Christine was a graduate of Hackettstown High School.

Mrs. Salegna was a wife, mother and homemaker.  While her children were young, she helped cater parties as a waitress for family members in the catering business in the Somerset Hills area.  After her children were older, she performed housework for Mr. and Mrs. William Katchen of Gladstone and Mrs. Charles Scribner and her family of Bernardsville from the late 1960s right up until the time she retired in 2015.

Chris loved flowers and was an avid gardener.  She was a former bowler and golfer.  She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth and St. Brigid Parishes in Far Hills and Peapack.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rocco M. Salegna who died October 27, 1994; by her son, Ronald M. Salegna who died July 26, 1988; and by two brothers, George Jones, Jr. and William Jones.

Mrs. Salegna is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Wilczewski and her husband, Phil, of Bedminster; a beloved grandson, Phil Wilczewski, Jr. and his fiance, Kathleen Riccardello, and her cherished great grandchildren, Tommy and Katie Wilczewski, all of Wayne; and her best friend, Elizabeth Sracic of Pennsylvania.

Funeral gathering at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Saturday, July 29 at 11:00am followed by a mass at St. Elizabeth Church, Far Hills at 11:30am.  Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.  Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.  Flowers are welcome or a memorial donation may be made to St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or at www.stjude.org.
