Tycene P. Edd, 76, of Bedminster passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at her home.
She was born in Crescent, OK on November 16, 1945, the only child of the late Thurman and Doris Graves Pirtle. She had lived in Oklahoma City, OK before moving to Bedminster in 1994.
Tycene was a 1986 graduate of the University of Oklahoma having received her master’s degree in human resources.
Mrs. Edd moved to New Jersey in 1994 and was assigned to AT&T in Whippany, NJ. She worked there for several years during the tri-vestiture that became Lucent Technology. She was selected as Loaned Executive Director to Project GradNewark, Newark Public Schools for three years implementing components in Malcolm X. Shabazz and Central High Schools and the K-8 schools that fed into them serving over 8,000 students. Tycene later worked for Project Graduation USA headquartered in Houston, Texas and had served as vice president for 5 years retiring in 2009.
Tycene was a member of The Links, Inc. Raritan Valley (NJ) Chapter and had served as President for 6 years from 2010 to 2015. An avid golfer, Mrs. Edd was instrumental in developing Swing With The Links annual charity golf outing to raise money for scholarships primarily for minority students. Each year Neshanic Golf Course, part of the Somerset County Parks and Recreation System, hosted the golf outing.
She was a life member of the Delta Sigma Theta, a national sorority.
Mrs. Edd is survived by her husband of 31 years, Dr. Leon Edd, Jr.; three step-children, Rodney J. Edd and his wife, Carmen, of Oklahoma City, OK, Robyne J. Edd Henry and her husband, JC Henry, of Fairfax Station, VA, and Ralayna J. Edd and her husband, Eddie Tillis, of Bartlesville, OK; a god daughter, Tawanna A. Black and her husband, Eric, of Minneapolis, MN; and eleven grandchildren, Malik J. Edd, Mekhi J. Edd, Malcolm J. Edd, Tyler J. Edd, Emerie Rose Henry, Ellasyn May Henry, Elynn Charlotte-Leigh Henry, Christian Black, Traviata Black, Rosalyn S. Tillis and Elise R. Tillis, along with many cousins and other relatives.
Relatives and friends may visit at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Tuesday, July 19 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 6:00pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. It is requested that all visitors wear a COVID mask. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may made to Links Foundation, Inc. Please send your donation through Raritan Valley (NJ) Chapter, The Links Incorporated, P.O.
