Norman G. “Bucky” Rowe, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 in the home that he built in the mid 1950s.
He was born in Pottersville on April 10, 1930, a son of the late Clarence G. and Mildred Harsell Rowe. He had been a resident of Peapack – Gladstone for over 70 years.
Bucky was a 1948 graduate of Bernards High School in Bernardsville.
He was a proud US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War having served from 1951 to 1954 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served as a construction foreman with Station Maintenance Squadron Three.
Mr. Rowe was a self-employed carpenter for several decades having worked for Mr. James Brady at Hamilton Farms in Bedminster for many years.
Bucky was an exempt member and former president and secretary of the Peapack – Gladstone Fire Department having joined in 1955.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed woodworking and caneing chairs, as well as, enjoyed puzzles and games.
Mr. Rowe was predeceased by her wife, Katherine E. “Betty” Ludlow Rowe, who died November 12, 2007; and by two sisters, Pauline Blazure and Meredith Van Duyne.
He is survived by three daughters, Deborah L. Davis and her husband, Chris, of Hackettstown, Beth A. Kavanaugh and her husband, Duane, of Oldwick, and Annette L. Rowe of Bedminster; a son, Norman G. Rowe, Jr. of Washington; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Sunday, March 30 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. A private family entombment will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Peapack – Gladstone Fire Department, 6 Dewey Avenue, Gladstone, NJ 07934.
