Lucas (Luke) Matcham of The Hills, Bedminster passed away suddenly on Monday, August 11, 2025 at the age of 44.
Luke was born in Cambridge (UK) in 1980 and came to live in Bridgewater, New Jersey when his family moved here in 1988. Luke attended the Bridgewater Township schools through high school. He was an excellent student and a very strong soccer player. In his senior year, the Bridgewater Raritan High School Soccer Team became joint NJ State Champions (Group 4) with Luke playing almost every minute of the season in the sweeper role, providing a solid foundation for the players in front of him, and earning County and State level recognition.
After high school, Luke went on to study at Rutgers University receiving a degree in Psychology in 2006, with a minor in Administration of Justice. After Rutgers, Luke moved to Boston and worked as the marketing lead in a start-up, partnering with a friend to develop on-demand, on-line tutorials for college students, a pioneering concept back in the late 2000’s. After Boston, Luke moved back to New Jersey and lived in Somerset, Franklin Township for about ten years before moving to Bedminster. During this time Luke developed a passion for live theater and participated in amateur productions across Central Jersey.
Luke is survived by his mother, Lorna Matcham, and his brother, David Matcham, both of Bedminster; as well as his father, George Matcham, and his wife, Wei Matcham, both of Cranbury, and their daughters (Luke’s sisters), Angela Matcham of San Francisco, CA and Emily Matcham, presently of Cambridge, UK.
Luke was a beloved cousin, nephew, grandson and sibling of family across Europe, Australia and America. He was solid and reliable as a friend, as a family member and as a teammate. The tributes now coming in remember Luke as honest and kind, with a gentle soul. He will be sorely missed.
A private family service was held under the direction of Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or at www.heart.org.
