Louise A. Alpaugh, 86, of Branchburg passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Saucon Valley Manor in Hellertown, Pa.

She was born in Orange on January 7, 1937, a daughter of the late Albert and Marie Backhouse Wortmann.  She grew up in Far Hills and had lived in Bernardsville most of her life.  She had resided in Berkeley Township and Branchburg before entering Saucon Valley Manor two years ago.

Mrs. Alpaugh was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.  She had worked as a clerical worker in a doctor’s office in Morristown earlier in her life.

Louise enjoyed making crafts and selling them at craft fairs.  She also enjoyed playing bingo and playing cards at her sister’s house for many years.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bernardsville Fire Company.

She is predeceased by her husband, Albert H. Alpaugh, Jr., who died March 3, 2011; by her daughter, Donna Marie Alpaugh, who died December 20, 2009; and by three siblings, Margaret, Sonny and Marie.

Mrs. Alpaugh is survived by two sons, James W. Alpaugh and his wife, Barbara, of Long Valley and William A. Alpaugh of Branchburg; two grandchildren, Kelsey Lynn Alpaugh and Jacob James Alpaugh; and a sister, Elizabeth Melick of Far Hills.

Funeral services will be held at Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Friday, October 20 at 11:00am.  Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.  Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bernardsville Fire Company, P.O. Box 745, Bernardsville, NJ  07924.
