Joseph Smith, 81, of Clinton Township passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Rolling Hills Care Center in Clinton Township.

He was born in Morristown on August 7, 1943, a son of the late Eugene and Grace Beam Smith.  He spent most of his life in Tewksbury Township having lived in Clinton Township for over the past ten years.

Mr. Smith was a farmer for most of his life, but also, owned and operated Smith’s Tree Service of Califon which he fully established in 1977  before retiring in 2013.

He was predeceased by a brother, Eugene Smith who died in 2024.

Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Shawn J. Smith and his longtime companion, Suzanne Stanford-Harvey, both of Washington; 2 daughters, Carolyn Jennifer Smith of Ringoes and Robin Lynn Smith of Califon; and 2 granddaughters, Megan Smith and Jillian Smith.

Private cremation services were held.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.  Arrangements were by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
