Elizabeth W. Melick, 91, of Far Hills passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026 at Saucon Valley manor in Hellertown, PA.

She was born in Orange on February 4, 1935, the youngest of five children to the late Albert Sr. and Marie Backhaus Wortmann.  She resided in Bernardsville before moving to Far Hills over 65 years ago.

Elizabeth was a 1953 graduate of Bernards High School in Bernardsville.

Mrs. Melick was a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker most of her life.  In her early years, she worked at Bell Labs in Whippany.

Liz was a member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of the Far Hills – Bedminster Fire Department and a former Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack No. 53 in Bedminster.  She and her late husband, Ronald, were charter members of the Somerset Hills Lutheran Church in Basking Ridge.

She is predeceased by her husband, Ronald H. Melick, who died November 2, 1982; by her daughter, Nancy J. Melick, who died March 22, 2000; and by her four siblings, Louise Alpaugh, Albert Wortmann, Margaret Murray and Marie Wortmann.

Mrs. Melick is survived by her two sons, Robert A. Melick and David R. Melick both of Far Hills; a granddaughter, Alexandria “Allie” Monzon and her husband, Mauricio, of Stirling; and three great grandchildren, Nancy, Jasmine and Bradley.

An entombment service will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park Chapel, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge on Friday, March 27 at 11:30am.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD  21741.  Arrangements are by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
