The family is saddened by the passing of Betty Bruce Bomberger on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
She was a beloved wife, mother, stepmother and aunt for 96 years. Born in Far Hills, New Jersey, to Harold and Grace Westley Bruce, Betty proved to be an excellent student, skipping a couple of grades in grade school. She graduated from Bernards High School in Bernardsville. Her secretarial skills enabled her to advance her career to become the executive secretary for New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Frederick Hall.
Betty enjoyed living in Somerville, New Jersey since 1993. She volunteered at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville and was involved in her church, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Somerville, and its chapter of the Daughters of the Order of the King. Her commitment to her church and her volunteer work reflected her deep faith and generous spirit.
Betty was married to Charles Huck and was the devoted mother of Susan White Huck. After their divorce, she married Ray Bomberger, to whom she remained devoted for nine years, until his death. Betty is survived by her only child, Susan; and by two nephews, Richard (Carol Hostetter) Reed of Bloomington, Indiana, and Robert (Pat) Reed of Punta Gorda, Florida. She is also remembered by her second husband’s family: her stepdaughter, Sarah (Douglas) DeMarrais of Bernardsville, New Jersey; and stepson, Brian (Eileen) Bomberger of Bethel, Connecticut; 10 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her stepsons, Robert Bomberger and William (Patty) Bomberger of Blanchester, Ohio.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 158 West High Street, Somerville on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to New Jersey Special Olympics, P.O. Box 3589, Princeton, NJ 08543-3589. Arrangements are by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
