Jean C. Garzillo

Jean C. Garzillo, 90, of the Sunset Lake section of Bridgewater passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at her daughter’s home in Lebanon Township.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 19, 1935, a daughter of the late Harrison S. and Helen M. Ruszkowski Taylor.  She had lived in Iselin before moving to Bridgewater in 1958.  Jean had a love for learning and was a 1985 graduate of Rider University receiving a bachelor’s in business degree.  She was actively taking classes in history at Raritan Valley Community College in Branchburg up until last winter.

Jean was employed as an executive secretary at Hoechst Celanese Corporation in Bridgewater for 25 years retiring in 2006.

She was a member of the Sunset Lake Association and the Washington Valley Garden Club.  She enjoyed playing mahjong and actively swam at the JCC in Bridgewater.  Jean was a communicant of St. Brigid Church in Peapack.

She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Marcellus D. Garzillo, who died April 10, 2009; by a brother, Joseph Taylor, who died in 2024; and by a sister, Carol Wheelock, who died in 2016.

Mrs. Garzillo is survived by a daughter, Alexa Garzillo – Volk and her husband, Anthony, of Lebanon Township; 2 granddaughters, Kate Margaret Volk and Megan Taylor Volk both of Lebanon Township; a sister, Cathy Nash of Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful beagle companion, Molly.

Funeral mass at St. Brigid Church, 129 Main Street, Peapack on Monday, June 16 at 11:30am.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.  Relatives and friends may visit at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Sunday from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter, 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, NJ  08807.
