Richard served in the US Army as a staff sergeant and machinist during the Korean War having been stationed in Austria.  Upon his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to his hometown and married his high school sweetheart, Jane Smalley, on 1956.  They enjoyed 64 wonderful years together until her passing on January 14, 2021.

Mr. Eick was employed in the research department of Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill for over 40 years before his retirement.  He also worked for The Recorder Publishing Company for many years in various capacities, and made many trips to the Finger Lakes region of New York to deliver their Wine Gazette.

Always active in his community, Richard was involved with the Boy Scouts while his son, William, was growing up.  He was a life member of the Bernardsville Fire Company and First Aid Squad as an EMT, and also served as a Trustee for several years.  He enjoyed boating and sailing in his younger years, and loved to travel especially to the New England states taking the sites on his Harley Davidson.

In addition to his wife, Jane, Richard was predeceased by a sister, Martha, in 1977.

He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Losavio and her husband, Rick, of Gladstone; his son, William Eick and his wife, Lynda, of Dunellen; two grandsons, Jeffrey Lucas and his wife, Sara, of Hillsborough and Ryan Lucas and his wife, Ariana, of Woodbridge Township; and five cherished great grandchildren, Emma, Oliver, Tristan, Kace and Sophia Lucas.  His sixth great granddaughter is due in December.
