Chester J. Chartowich, 78, of Bridgewater passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville.

He was born in Las Vegas, NV on December 28, 1943, a son of the late Chester J. Sr. and Rose DeLuca Chartowich.  He grew up in Mountainside and had lived in Warren before moving to Bridgewater 36 years ago.

Chet was a graduate of Parsons College in Iowa receiving a BA degree in sociology.

He was a US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Chartowich was a superior for the Union County Board of Social Services in Plainfield for 35 years retiring in 2002.

He was a member of the NRA and greatly enjoyed history and politics.  He loved fishing and coin collecting.  He avidly read his Bible daily.  Above all, Chet was a family man who enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.

Mr. Chartowich is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann Swentko Chartowich; 3 sons, Michael A. Chartowich and his wife, Lyn, of Bloomsburg, PA, Brian A. Chartowich and his wife, Sonja, of Bridgewater, and Robert M. Chartowich and his wife, Shannon, of Somerville; a sister, Yvonne Alcott and her husband, David, of Eatontown; and 8 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may visit at the Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Friday, February 11 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.  A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00pm.  A private interment will take place at the Bedminster Reformed Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS  66675-8516.
