It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Brian Patrick Caviston, 44, of Long Valley, NJ.  Brian passed away peacefully on March 4, 2023, in Perth Amboy, where he was an intern and staff member at Renovation House, a program of Abundant Life Church, a provider of community service programs in the area.  He was much loved as the cook for program participants and for large community events, and was appreciated as a talented craftsman who brought his many skills to upgrading and repairing the program centers.

Brian was born on February 4, 1979, in Summit, NJ, to John Patrick Caviston and Kathleen Ormsby Caviston of Califon, NJ.  Besides his parents, he leaves behind a son, Jeremiah Patrick, 19, from his marriage to Paige Munion Caviston (deceased).  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn; his beloved brother, Kevin, and his wife, Jacqueline, of Massachusetts, and their children, Jack, Felicity and Shepard; as well as, the aunts, uncles and cousins in New Jersey and North Carolina whom he dearly loved.

Brian attended West Morris Central High School in Chester, as well as, Morris County Vocational Technical School in Denville.  After working in the carpentry, painting and plumbing trades, he attended and graduated Hunterdon Polytechnic Vocational School and thereafter earned his N.J. Electrician’s License.  He was the owner of Grace Electrical Contracting in Long Valley, working on residential jobs and large commercial projects.

Brian enjoyed the outdoors and the country views of Schooley’s Mountain from their Long Valley home where he raised chickens and enjoyed fishing the South Branch of the Raritan River.  Close to his heart was cycling, and he had a bike for every situation.  He organized the highly successful Tour de Long Valley in 2016, and later mapped and made a solo 3-day bicycle trip from Long Valley to Virginia just to accomplish the feat.  Brian was also a Mixed Martial Arts medalist and Triathlon participant.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 25 at Pottersville Reformed Church, 2090 Black River Road, Pottersville, NJ, and is open to all whose lives were touched by Brian.  The service will be followed by the interment at the Pottersville Church Cemetery Ash Garden and a repast at the Church’s Community House, directly across from the Church grounds.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory can be made for the upkeep of Pottersville Reformed Church, P.O. Box 89, 2090 Black River Road, Pottersville, NJ  07979, a place Brian called “my Church”.
